What's on at The Cape Community Farm

With all that is on offer - working bees, workshops, masterclasses, social events - The Cape Community Farm has become more than just a place to grow produce. It is a gathering place and a space where friendships of like minded people are formed.

Masterclasses

Masterclasses are run regularly throughout the year. Topics include growing produce; using produce (pickling and preserving); cooking (sourdough); mosaic; basket weaving; nature journalling to name just a few. Classes offered will grow over the year, so keep an eye out and keep informed.

Masterclass series: Sourdough

What: Sourdough - Learn the basics
When: 1 - 5pm on Saturday April 26
Booking: available soon
Cost: coming soon
Details: During this hands on session you will learn about the basics of working with sourdough. You'll see how easy it is to finalise a loaf ready for the oven, as well as building a focaccia.
We will mix the ingredients together for your very own loaf which you'll take home to finish and cook. You'll learn how and when to stretch the dough.
Together, we'll do the final stages to a dough that has been rested and is ready to go in the oven.
You will also see how easy it is to use your sourdough starter to make a delicious focaccia - which we will cook and sample later.
At the end of the session, we will be tasting that loaf we cooked as well as the focaccia. You will take home your very own jar of starter; the loaf you have begun working so that you can finish and cook it at home; along with some recipes.
Details and booking links will be coming very soon! We look forward to seeing you in the kitchen for some sourdough magic.

Social events

Keep an eye out on Facebook and in our newsletter for more information about upcoming social events.

Social events

The Farm also provides occasions for members and their families to come together for a bit of fun and laughter. These usually include the sharing of food.
Music events, trivia nights are just a couple of things that you can enjoy as part of your membership.
We have nothing scheduled just yet, but keep an eye out for the next fun thing!

The Cape Community Farm couldn't operate to its full potential without the help of its members and volunteers. It doesn't matter what your special interest might be, there is a volunteering opportunity to match. You might spend some time gathering and preparing a harvest; or weeding and mulching. You might enjoy creating rich compost; or showing groups around the farm. We've got something that will match your skill and ability level. Take a look at the weekly volunteer schedule for times, shown above, or contact the farmer for more information.

Monthly working bee
Third Saturday of every month between 10.30am -12.30pm

As a member, you can also attend our monthly working bees which are followed by workshops run by the farmer (we share a pot luck lunch afterwards). You can easily keep up to date with all the news and latest tips to get the most out of your plot.
Many hands make light work (and much laughter). We start with a working bee; then progress to a workshop and demonstration; and finish up with a Pot Luck Lunch. Please bring a plate of your favourite food to share.

The Community Farm Facilities

Farm House

The Farm House and event spaces are exciting developments of the farm and the build is expected to start in 2025.
Stay tuned for more information.

Nursery

Propagated onsite in the farm's greenhouse, the nursery provides vegetable seedlings, ornamentals, indigenous and other native plants available for purchase. These plants are grown onsite, so you know they are hardened for growing in our challenging conditions.

Event Space:The Pod

The Farm's first event space was completed in 2024. The Pod (as it is lovingly known) is used primarily as a potting space and seed storage facility. However, with its clever configuration, it can also be used as a space for events, workshops, and informal gatherings.
