What are the membership benefits?

You can connect socially
The Cape Community Farm is a great place to connect socially, where strong community networks are built amongst its members. Farm members are encouraged and supported to be as involved as they like or are able to. This can be done by volunteering for the garden and nursery activities; or for outreach and education opportunities that showcase the benefits of urban farming, food growing, sustainable living and social enterprise.
You can share knowledge
Our members' skill levels range from experienced growers, to those who might be at the very beginning of their gardening journey. To help cater to this knowledge diversity, the farm provides opportunities to learn about food production regardless of your level of gardening expertise.

Our farmer is flexible. Not only can he provide you with specific advice and troubleshooting, but you can also attend regular workshops and working bees to learn in a hands-on environment under the farmer's guidance. The farm has a relaxed atmosphere which makes it a great place to share knowledge more informally too - like when you've come down to water, weed or harvest your plots.
You can have fun
While fun is always a good reason to do something, there are many other reasons to become a member. Like...sustainability; growing your own lovely fresh produce; reducing your food miles; increasing your family's food security; improving your mental and physical health; and being a part of a green movement.

Plus, members receive discounted rates for farm produce, seedlings and other farm enterprises and activities. As the farm grows, so too will the list of value adds to your membership.
Become a farm member
How do I become a member?

It's pretty quick and easy - just complete the application form .
Once the farmer has received your form, he will be in touch regarding payment.
If you're eligible to be a plot holding member, he will also organise your plot allocations and arrange a time for your farm induction.

What are the fees?
Memberships run for a 12 month period from July 1 to June 30 inclusive.
Membership will be $150 per household per year. However, until we get all of our facilities built, it currently has a 50% discount applied - so you only pay $75.
Eligible members may also choose to rent wicking beds for $52 annually for each 1 square metre plot.
Prices are correct as of July 2024 and are subject to change.
What size are the plots?
Each raised wicking bed garden plot is 1 square metre.
It may not sound like a big space, but in 2022/2023 one of our members weighed the fresh herbs and vegetables they grew. During the 12 month period, their records showed that they grew over 23 kg of usable, tasty, fresh produce per 1 sq meter plot. This produce was valued in excess of $250 per sq meter compared to Coles supermarket prices for the same items.
This experiment demonstrates, that when growers put in the effort to maintain their plots and nurture their crops, the plots can be considered a good economical option.
How are the plots allocated?
Members who live in the Cape Paterson vicinity are eligible to rent plots. Once your application has been approved and payment made, the farmer will make contact with you to arrange a time for an induction. During the induction walk around, the farmer will allocate your plots. Where possible, the farmer will give you some choice around the location of your plots.
What are my responsibilities as a member?
The Cape Community Farm is an Incorporated Association which operates under the standard rules of not-for-profit associations. When you sign up as a member, you are agreeing to abide by the rules of the association, which include your responsibilities for maintaining your plot and an expectation for you to participate in maintenance activities.
All new Memberships must be approved by the Committee.
When can I start growing?
Members who live in the Cape Paterson vicinity are eligible to rent plots. Once your application has been approved and payment made, the farmer will make contact with you to arrange a time for an induction. The farmer will show you your plot(s), how the wicking beds work and give you tips to get the best out of your plot. You'll be shown where the taps are located, how to access the farm and where you can find the things you may need.
Once you have been inducted, you can start growing your wonderful fresh produce.
