What to do in the winter months (June, July, August)
Direct from the farmer to you: winter tips and tricks for your growing success.
- Begin resetting any empty gardens in preparation for spring
- Begin foliar spraying all new seedlings with Epsom salts and continue until mid-September
- Plan what to plant and where in the new season, consider a basic crop rotation
- Plant garlic bulbs in June
- Reset and replenish all annual gardens before establishing new season plantings
- Prune all other deciduous fruit trees and vines
- Purchase and plant bare root stock trees
- Harvest and tip prune citrus trees
- Continue to shred all summer and autumn crop debris and heap in large layered pile of garden organics and manures
- When pruning figs, take tip cuttings and place in a bucket of soil and they will resprout in mid-September.
- Purchase new season seed and begin indoor propagation in August
